Police have charged a teenager over a knife attack in Walsall street that left a boy with a significant stab wound to his stomach.

Marshall Barnett, aged 18, is accused of stabbing the 16-year-old in Caldmore Road, Caldmore at around 3.30 pm on Wednesday (24 Feb).

Unemployed Barnett was arrested from his home in Redhouse Street, Walsall, in the early hours of yesterday (26 Feb) and later charged.

He faces one count of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and another of knife possession.

Barnett appeared at Wolverhampton Magistrates Court today (27 Feb) and was remanded into prison ahead of his next court appearance.

Police believe the boy, who remains in hospital, was attacked by two men and our enquiries continue.

Detectives have carried out a trawl of CCTV and recovered several images of a man they want to trace in connection with the attack.

Detective Inspector Jackie Nicholson said: “We need to identify this man. We’ve seized decent quality images and I’m sure someone will recognize him.

“I would urge anyone who believes they know who he is to get in touch with us immediately so we can take action. I would also encourage the man in question to do the right thing, come and talk to us.”

We’re keen to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time and may have seen anything.
