An 18-year-old man has been arrested as part of a major police investigation into a series of ‘car cannibalism’ incidents across Birmingham. The suspect was detained by officers from the West Midlands Police Vehicle Organised Crime Team at a property in Alum Rock and remains in custody on suspicion of conspiracy to steal from motor vehicles and the theft of two vehicles.

The offences, which occurred between June and October last year, targeted cars in areas including Sutton Coldfield, Aston, Hodge Hill, Bordesley Green, and Harborne. Thieves stripped vehicles of front bumpers, headlights, bonnets, and registration plates, leaving owners facing costly repairs and significant inconvenience.

Police have emphasised that tackling vehicle crime is a top priority, recognising the distress and disruption caused to victims. In response to the spate of thefts, targeted patrols have been deployed in affected areas to deter further incidents and reassure the public.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: “We understand how upsetting and disruptive these crimes can be for vehicle owners. Our dedicated team is working tirelessly to bring those responsible to justice and prevent further offences. We urge anyone with information to come forward and assist with our ongoing investigation.”

Residents are advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the police. The investigation remains ongoing, and further updates will be provided as the case develops.
