A wanted thug who left a police officer with a broken arm has been jailed after we caught him later hiding in a bush.

Aaron Watson was already being sought on suspicion of assault when he punched PC Mohammed Javed to avoid being arrested in Coventry.

The officer and colleagues had spotted 28-year-old Watson in Spencer Street, Earlsdon, during the early hours on 8 February this year.

He tried to flee but following a foot chase PC Javed managed to catch up with Watson who began lashing out having been detained.

He also punched the officer who during the incident sustained a fractured arm which continues to keep him off duty.

Watson managed to escape from the scene but colleagues traced him hiding in bushes around 30 minutes later where he was tasered and detained. Watson, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to wounding at Warwick Crown Court on Thursday (23 April) and was jailed for 21 months.

DC Mike Bray, from Force CID, said:

“Any attack on an officer who is on the frontline, protecting the public and catching criminals, is deplorable.

“Watson was prepared to use violence to escape punishment and the extent of the injury means PC Javed is still unable to return to work.

“We won’t tolerate actions such as Watson’s and will always seek punishment through the courts.”
