Police arrested two teenagers and a car has been recovered, just an hour after officers were called to reports of a carjacking in Birmingham.

The Vauxhall Insignia was taken at 3.40am this morning (9 May) on Lea Ford Road. The couple in the car were threatened and forced out of their vehicle.

Police spotted the car on Tyburn Road and followed it in one of our unmarked cars.

The stolen car then crashed into a parked car which rolled into a taxi on Ellerton Road, Kingstanding.

Two 16-year-old boys were arrested on suspicion of robbery.

Two machetes were found in the car and they have been recovered for forensic examination, alongside the vehicle.

The driver of the taxi suffered injuries to his hand and was taken to hospital. Our professional standards department has been notified, as is standard procedure when a pursued car crashes.

Catching car thieves is a priority for us. Officers arrested more than 2,300 suspected car thieves and recovered over 1,000 stolen vehicles last year as part of our drive to stop car thieves.
