Police have charged two men with attempted murder after two others were injured when gunshots were fired in Smethwick.

Police arrested 21-year-old Jamal Hussain at the airport following his return to the UK last Thursday.

It followed ongoing enquiries into an incident in Bertram Road on 12 January last year when shots were fired towards a shop. Two men, aged in their 40s, were treated for injuries which were thankfully not serious.

The arrest came after officers similarly detained 26-year-old Azeem Hussain following a flight into the country last month.

The pair, both from Walsall, have now been charged with attempted murder and firearms offences. Azeem Hussain was remanded to appear before Birmingham Crown Court today (10 May) and Jamal Hussain on 31 May.
