Birmingham, 21 May 2025 – A 17-year-old boy has been arrested after officers recovered a combat knife and suspected Class A drugs from a vehicle in Balsall Heath.
West Midlands Police were alerted by a concerned member of the public at around 3pm yesterday (20 May) about a possible weapon in a car. Officers swiftly attended the scene near the junction of Birchwood Road and Ladypool Road, where they located and searched the vehicle.
During the search, police discovered a combat knife and a quantity of what is believed to be Class A drugs. The teenage suspect was arrested nearby and remains in custody on suspicion of possession of a bladed article and possession of drugs with intent to supply.
The arrest coincides with Sceptre Week, a nationwide initiative involving all 43 police forces across England and Wales to intensify efforts against knife crime.
A police spokesperson stated: “We take all reports of weapons seriously. The public’s vigilance is crucial in helping us tackle violent crime. If you have information about someone carrying a weapon, please contact us via Live Chat on our website or by calling 101.”
Authorities continue to urge communities to report suspicious activity as part of ongoing efforts to reduce knife-related offences.
