Police are asking for your help in tracing prisoner Mohammed Waqas who has absconded.

The 29-year-old – who is serving a prison term for assault at HMP Sudbury – fled while on a day release in Birmingham on Friday.

Waqas had been granted release on compassionate grounds and despite extensive enquiries, and searches since, he still remains at large.

Although he’s not considered to be a threat to anyone at this stage police would ask people not to approach him.

Detective Superintendent Darren Walsh, from force CID, said: “We’ve had officers following a number of lines of enquiry but we’re still to locate Waqas.

“We believe there are people out there who know where he is and they need to come forward. It’s important to remember you are committing an offence if you deliberately harbour somebody.”
