Police have charged two men with multiple burglaries following the early morning pursuit of a car through Birmingham.

It’s the latest strike in our operation targeting suspected car thieves.

The men were detained in Castle Vale at 3.30am on Tuesday (1 Dec) on suspicion of involvement in two lock-snap burglary attempts in Four Oaks earlier that morning.

It’s also suspected the pair were involved in a burglary in Wood Lane, Bartley Green on 27 November, where a Ford Fiesta and Vauxhall Corsa were driven off after keys were stolen.

Ashley Smyth, aged 25 from Blenheim Way in Castle Vale, and 23-year-old Conrad Ashe of no fixed address, have both been charged with two attempted burglaries and a burglary.

They appeared in Birmingham Magistrates Court yesterday (2 Dec) and were remanded into prison where they will stay until their next court appearance at Wolverhampton Crown Court on 11 January.

The arrests were made under Operation Cantil – our campaign targeting burglary and car theft suspects.
