Police have charged 26 people mainly from the Walsall area with historical child sex offences dating back to between 2008 and 2016 following an investigation by officers from Police Public Protection Unit.

All 26, aged between 20 and 69, will appear at Birmingham Magistrates Court on 22 and 23 June.

Chief Inspector Jo Floyd said: “This is a complex investigation involving several young people who have suffered physical and emotional abuse. They were safeguarded as allegations were reported and we are continuing to work with a number of other agencies to ensure they receive the support they need as this case progresses.

“We understand that this investigation will cause concern in the local community and I would like to reassure anyone affected by it that we take all reports of abuse seriously, no matter how long ago it happened. We have specially trained officers who can deal with reports sensitively and compassionately.”
