Motorists who use one of the council’s city centre car parks are being warned that it will close next month.

Birmingham City Council’s Markets Car Park in Moat Lane, Digbeth, is centrally located for the Bull Ring Markets, but will close on 10 January 2021.

It is one of two facilities – the other being Pershore Street Car Park, which closed on 9 April 2020 – which will be demolished next year as work begins to prepare the former Wholesale Markets site for the £1.9bn Birmingham Smithfield development.

As one of the most significant development opportunities in the city and a key strand of the transformational plans for a world-class city centre – as set out in the Big City Plan 2011 – Birmingham Smithfield will create a new 17-hectare urban quarter, including:

A new home for Birmingham’s historic Bull Ring Markets.

A unique family destination that includes leisure and cultural facilities.

A new public square.

Integrated public transport.

More than 2,000 homes, with a public park and community facilities.

The Markets Car Park will continue to operate on its usual hours until 8pm on 10 January 2021.
