Police seized DJ equipment after closing down a rave with more than 300 people as officers stopped around 80 illegal gatherings across the weekend.

Officers took action to break up the unlawful music event on a car park in Hampton Street, Birmingham, after hundreds mingled and flouted CoVID-19 regulations on Saturday evening.

Police used powers to take music and sound equipment from the event and also used a police drone to help secure evidence.

Police are looking to take action against organisers and will be reviewing all footage to see if further offences have been committed, and further prosecution action can be pursued.

During the evening Police also dispersed around 200 who gathered in Hadfield Close, also near Birmingham city centre; and were called to break up and advise on dozens of house and outdoor parties where there were illegal meet ups of more than 30 people.

This included stepping in to move on large gatherings in Armoury Road, Small Heath and Wallace Road, Oldbury on Saturday; and land off Clifton Road, Erdington, on Friday night.

Chief Superintendent Claire Bell said: “It’s hugely disappointing that people still don’t recognise the dangers to themselves, and their loved ones, of large gatherings which only increase the risk of spreading a deadly virus.

“Our officers took decisive action across the region which included breaking up a rave with hundreds of people. We’ve seized the music equipment and we’ll now be looking to prosecute the organisers as such events are reckless and put people’s health at risk.

“Raves and large parties are not only illegal but a nuisance to others, and while we try to engage as much as possible we can’t tolerate such events.”
