In an inspiring show of community spirit and a love for reading, students at Greenholm Primary School raised over £1,200 during a week-long sponsored reading event. The initiative, held from September 30th to October 7th, not only encouraged young readers to dive into books but also highlighted the importance of literacy support in primary education.
Organised with the invaluable help of Jess Muxlow from Freya’s Fables, the event saw students seeking sponsorship from family and friends, reading as much as they could to make a difference. With literacy challenges affecting one in five primary school children in the UK, this event shone a light on the transformative power of books and the ongoing need for literacy investment.
The funds raised have been further boosted through Freya’s Fables, which contributed an additional 60% in book value. Thanks to this partnership, the school will now receive over £1900 worth of new books, creating a richer literary environment for Greenholm’s students to explore and enjoy.
Jess Muxlow is eager to extend this initiative to other local schools in the Birmingham and Walsall areas, aiming to help more students access the joy of reading through similar sponsored events. Schools interested in sparking a love for reading among their pupils can reach out to Jess at Freyasfables@gmail.com for more details.
With this achievement, Greenholm Primary has set an inspiring example of what can be accomplished when a community comes together for a cause, demonstrating that reading truly has the power to change lives.
