Liverpool- A 53-year-old man has been arrested after a car struck multiple pedestrians in Liverpool city centre during celebrations for the Liverpool FC parade, Merseyside Police have confirmed.
The incident occurred just after 6pm on Monday evening on Water Street, a central route near the parade area. Police received reports that a car had collided with several people. Emergency services swiftly responded to the scene, where the vehicle had come to a stop. The driver, described as a white British man from the Liverpool area, was detained at the scene.
The number and severity of injuries sustained in the collision have not yet been confirmed. Police say extensive enquiries are underway to determine the full circumstances leading up to the incident.
Authorities are urging the public not to speculate online and have requested that any witnesses or those with video footage contact Merseyside Police directly via their social media channels @MerPolCC or by calling 101, quoting log 784.
In a statement, police added: “We would ask people not to share distressing content online but to send the footage or information directly to us.”
