A man has been arrested after a woman in her 70s was robbed in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter this morning (29 April).
Members of the public helped detain the suspect after the woman’s bag was snatched at the junction of Warstone Lane and Vyse Lane.
It happened at just after 11.20am and passers-by intervened before officers quickly arrived at the scene.
A 29-year-old man was promptly arrested on suspicion of robbery and is now in custody for questioning.
We managed to recover the stolen bag and the woman has been taken to hospital with a suspected fractured hip.
Tackling robbery is our priority, and we launched Operation Ruby as part of our drive to catch suspects and reduce offences.
We continue to have visible patrols in busy areas and, thanks to the brave actions of the public, we now have another suspect in custody.
