Lovelace and two others threw a brick and a wheelie bin through the window of a flat in Haydn Grove, Sheldon during the early hours of 2 April.

The homeowner was sitting watching TV when the brick was thrown through his window. Fearing for his safety, he ran into the garden while the group broke in and caused extensive damage to his property.

A witness said he saw three men armed with sticks or bars and described the commotion as the group raided the flat.

Forensic examination of the scene found blood on one of the broken windows which was linked to Lovelace.

Lovelace, aged 22, from Horrell Road, Sheldon was sentenced to 26 months in prison for burglary at Birmingham Crown Court yesterday (Monday 15 June).

PC Jay Aston, from our force CID at Stechford, said: “This was a nasty attack which terrified the homeowner. He was forced to hide in his garden as Lovelace and his accomplices ransacked his home armed with weapons.

“We’re still seeking to identify the other people responsible and would urge anyone with any information to get in touch.

“No one should have to ensure such a frightening experience in their own home. I hope the jail term offers some comfort to the man affected by this horrible crime.”
