Man shot dead in Birmingham named as Raad Asmael

A 27-year-old man who was fatally shot in Birmingham on Friday night has been identified as Raad Asmael.

Emergency services were called to Rotton Park Road at the junction of City Road in Edgbaston just after 10pm on 22 November following reports of a shooting.

Despite the best efforts of paramedics, Mr Asmael was pronounced dead at the scene.

A second man was also injured in the incident and was taken to hospital, where he remains in stable condition.

In a statement, Mr Asmael’s family said: “Indeed, we belong to Allah and indeed to him we shall return. Our beloved husband, son, father and brother.”

Detective Chief Inspector Laura Harrison, from West Midlands Police’s Homicide team, appealed for witnesses to come forward.

“Our thoughts are with Raad’s family at this incredibly difficult time and we are doing everything we can to understand exactly what happened,” she said.

“The shooting took place near the busy junction with City Road and it may be that you have information which can help our investigation progress.
