Officers from the Central Motorway Police Group have carried out a month-long operation to halt those who put lives at risk on our region’s major routes.

There were 338 motorway drivers who were spotted speeding during May.

Police caught a driver doing 125mph on the M5 between junctions one and two and another was registered at 120mph. A motorist was clocked at 120mph on the M6 between junctions 10 and 10a and drivers also hit excessive speeds on the Aston Expressway. This included one driver doing 117mph – more than twice the 50mph limit.

Those caught speeding were issued with penalty points and a fine or reported for summons.

Such irresponsible driving increases the risk of serious, or fatal, collisions which increases the strain on the already busy staff of the NHS who are leading the coronavirus fight.
