A rapist who attacked a woman in broad daylight in Birmingham has been convicted.
Mustafa Hakim was found guilty of rape when he appeared at Birmingham Crown Court this week.
30-year-old Hakim, of Quinton, approached a woman from behind on the morning of 28 July last year.
She had been walking along Bourne Brook walkway in Selly Oak to catch a bus to work when Hakim approached her.
Hakim assaulted the woman and dragged her to a nearby wooded area, where he went onto rape her.
The attack only stopped when the woman managed to call for help, causing Hakim to stop the attack and make off with her mobile phone.
Following the attack, officers worked round the clock on the investigation, collecting DNA evidence and CCTV footage that showed Hakim riding his bicycle in the area.
Despite strong evidence of his involvement in the case, Hakim denied any responsibility when he was interviewed by officers.
DI Scott Shaw, from our Public Protection Unit, said: “This was a truly shocking incident where a young woman was attacked in broad daylight.
“All women and girls should feel safe in public and this case was a significant investigation for West Midlands Police.
“We take these offences very seriously and work hard to keep dangerous people like Hakim off the streets.
“The thoughts of the entire investigation team continue to be with the victim, who bravely gave evidence at trial and was instrumental in bringing Hakim to justice.”
Hakim, of Rickyard Piece, Birmingham, was found guilty on 26 January and will be sentenced on 5 April.
