Solihull Shoplifter Jailed and Banned After 37-Count Theft Spree

A prolific Solihull shoplifter has been jailed and banned from stores after police ended his crime spree in the town.

Adam Ford was jailed at Birmingham Magistrates Court last week for shop thefts, possession of cannabis and breach of bail conditions.

This is after he was arrested and charged with 37 different offences.

Ford, 36, was involved in the theft spree between December 2023 and April 2024.

The thefts saw Ford enter a number of shops in Solihull, filling up a bag with various goods and leaving without paying.

Ford was spotted on CCTV stealing alcohol from a shop in Marston Green on 24 March and was arrested a short time later.

In addition to being jailed for 16 weeks last Wednesday (17 April) he also received a three-year order banning him from the shops involved.

Police fully understand the impact and frustration of shoplifting on businesses of all sizes, it’s a crime which can affect livelihoods.

As part of our more local policing model our teams across investigations, neighbourhood and response are now working closer together to prevent and tackle crimes which impact on our communities.

Using local officer knowledge and working with store security, we are able to identify suspects, and any emerging trends or hotspots quicker.

We routinely carry out regular high visibility patrols in retail areas, along with other activity, to trace and catch offenders.
