Teenager charged over Handsworth shop shooting

Police charged a teenager after shots were fired in a shop in Handsworth on Monday (20 April).

The 17-year-old, who cannot be named legally, has been charged with possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life and is due before Birmingham Magistrates Court today.

Detectives are continuing to investigate reports of three people chasing another group into DFC Chicken in Rookery Road at around 6pm.

Shots were fired and the trio fled. The other group – of up to six men – had also left before officers arrived and no-one has reported any injuries.

Three others, aged between 15 and 20, arrested on Tuesday have been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

Detective Inspector Jim Church, from force CID, said: “Our investigations are still on going to identify others involved in this incident.
