A joint operation targeting dangerous drivers at the NEC on Tuesday (13th August) resulted in six vehicle seizures and two arrests.

Officers from the Road Harm Prevention Team teamed up with council licensing teams, the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA), DataTag and HMRC Revenue and Customs to crackdown on road safety offences.

The operation was a success, with six vehicles seized and a further 12 prohibited from the road due to dangerous defects and being overweight. A 39-year-old man was arrested for driving while disqualified.

In a dramatic twist, officers also intercepted a trailer carrying two horses. Thanks to swift investigation and support from the equestrian community, the horses were identified as having been stolen from Cumbria overnight.

A 60-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of theft. The ponies are now on their way to safely be reunited with their owner.

Police said:
This operation shows we’re not horsing around when it comes to road safety. We’ll continue to work with our partners to rein in those who break the rules of the road.
