Tributes have been poured in following the tragic death of 12-year-old Leo Ross, a pupil at Christ Church C of E Secondary Academy, who was fatally stabbed in Birmingham yesterday afternoon.
Leo was discovered near Scribers Lane in Hall Green with a stab wound to his stomach. Emergency services were called to the scene, and Leo was swiftly transported to the hospital. Despite the prompt medical attention, he was pronounced dead at approximately 7:30 PM.
Chief Superintendent Richard North, commander of the Birmingham Local Policing Area, confirmed that a 14-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of murder. The suspect remains in custody as the investigation continues. Superintendent North appealed to the public for any information, urging those with CCTV, mobile phone, or dashcam footage from the area around 3 PM yesterday to come forward to aid the investigation.
Leo’s headteacher, Executive Headteacher Diane Henson, described him as a “lovely and bright” young man who was beloved by his friends and the school community. “Leo was a lively and happy young man. He had many very good friends who he absolutely adored, and they adored him. He was just a lovely and bright member of the school community,” Henson said. The school is providing support to students and has opened a book of condolence with the family’s permission.
The Ross family and the school community have requested privacy during this difficult time. Superintendent North emphasized the senseless nature of the attack and extended his condolences to Leo’s family and friends. “This is an appalling and senseless attack. We are doing everything we can to support the loved ones of the young boy who lost his life in such an appalling way,” he stated.
In response to the incident, local authorities are increasing patrols in the area and continuing their efforts to educate young people about the dangers and consequences of knife crime. Superintendent North assured the community that their priority remains bringing justice for Leo and supporting his family through their grief.
The tragic loss of Leo Ross has left the Birmingham community in shock and mourning, highlighting the urgent need to address youth violence and ensure the safety of all young people.
