Police are appealing for witnesses after a cyclist was pushed into the canal between University and Five Ways in Birmingham on Friday (12 June) evening.

The 26-year-old woman was heading towards the city centre near Edgbaston Park Road at about 6.30pm, when she saw eight to 10 youths cycling towards her.

The group, described as white and mixed race males aged 14 to 16, stopped at the side of the towpath but as she passed them she was pushed into the water. They then cycled off laughing, heading away from the city centre.

The woman, who managed to pull herself out of the water, suffered bruising to her legs and ankle.

It is understood a second woman cyclist was also pushed into the water in the same area on Friday evening and we are further aware of reports on social media of similar incidents.

Our investigations are continuing and officers are carrying out regular patrols of the area.

We would ask anyone who may have seen anything or have any information about who may be responsible to get in touch.
