Four men have been arrested across the West Midlands overnight after our ‘pawfect’ police dogs helped track them down.

Police were called to Compton Road, Cradley Heath in the early hours of this morning (8 July) to reports of a burglary in progress. As officers arrived a red Skoda was leaving the scene. Following a pursuit, the car was abandoned on Stretton Place in Dudley and a group of men were seen running from the car. A 23-year-old was quickly detained and arrested. The car, which was believed to be on false plates, was searched and a large Rambo knife was found nearby.

PD Ellis was set to track the other occupants of the car and after venturing deep into Netherton Park, the pup found a 21-year-old hiding in dense undergrowth. He was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon and vehicle theft.

A third man was arrested in Handsworth after a suspected stolen Ford Fiesta failed to stop for officers and was found abandoned in Crick Lane. PD Arnhem tracked down the 20-year-old who was hiding on top of a first floor roof covered in branches. He was arrested on suspicion of vehicle theft

All three men remain in police custody today.

Over in Coventry last night (7 July), PD Vapour sniffed out a samurai sword hidden under a wooden board after we were called to Elkington Street to reports of a man seen waving a sword around.

Barry Cooper, aged 33 of Barker Butts Lane, has been charged with possession of a knife and has been bailed to appear before Coventry Magistrates Court on 4 August.
