In a closely contested West Midlands mayoral election, Labour’s Richard Parker emerged victorious, narrowly defeating Conservative Andy Street by just 1,508 votes. The tight race underscored the diminishing gap between the two major parties in the region.
Following his defeat, former Mayor Andy Street expressed deep disappointment, stating,
“Absolutely gutted to be so near, yet so far.”
He reflected on his tenure with a sense of pride and accomplishment. “It has been my honour to serve the citizens of the West Midlands for the past seven years. I have aimed to carry out my duties with dignity and integrity,” said Street.

It has been my honour to serve citizens in the WM for the last seven years, and I hope I have done it with dignity & integrity.
I am proud of what we have achieved together and I hope my successor can build upon it.
