A man and a teenager have been charged with robbery in Hagley Road, #Birmingham.

The two were arrested at around 4.30pm on Tuesday (9 April) following an armed robbery earlier that day where a mobile phone was stolen.

Following subsequent searches police recovered a machete, knives and knuckle dusters.

Shoaid Khan, aged 18, from Sparkbrook, has been charged with robbery and a 17-year-old boy – also from Birmingham – with robbery and possession of an offensive weapon.

Both appeared before Birmingham Magistrates’ Court yesterday (Thursday).

A third person was also arrested but later released.

Reducing robbery is a priority for us and police are running Operation Ruby to tackle those committing these crimes.

Police said:

From the initial call to report a robbery, right through to charging offenders to court – Operation Ruby is looking at processes and improvements we can make in the service we provide to victims.

We are also working to spread crime prevention messaging across the region so people can take all reasonable steps possible to help keep themselves and their belongings safe.
