Police have arrested a man on suspicion of money laundering after he was found in a restaurant car park with a safe containing up to £30,000 in cash.

Our officers found him at McDonald’s in Gallagher Retail Park #Coventry on Wednesday (7 Oct) at 10.35am following reports he’d been seen with a knife.

Officers didn’t find a weapon but there was a safe on the back seats which was later found to be hiding a stash of money.

You could buy 139,860 chicken nuggets with £30,000! The suspect clearly had a case of the munchies…

Police seized the money – which WMP suspect could be ill-gotten drugs profits – and the safe will be examined for any traces of illegal substances.

The 24-year-old man, from Coventry, was questioned on suspicion of theft and money laundering. He refused to account for the money or give any indication where it came from.

He has been release under investigation while our enquiries continue.
