Police have charged a teenager with attempted murder after it’s alleged he deliberately drove at a man outside a Birmingham pub.

The 17-year-old – who is too young for us to legally name – is accused of hitting the victim in Hurst Lane, Shard End, on Monday (20 July).

He was carried for around 20 metres on the bonnet of the Vauxhall Astra before falling under the car’s wheels.

The 22-year-old suffered fractures to his pelvis, shoulder and back and remains in hospital.

Police arrested the suspect shortly after the 6pm collision and last night charged him with attempted murder, dangerous driving and driving while disqualified.

The teenager also faces one count of breaching a harassment restraining order after it’s claimed he phoned his ex-girlfriend shortly before the collision.

The 17-year-old – originally from Stechford – is due to appear in Birmingham Magistrates Court today.

Police are still appealing for witnesses and information on the whereabouts of the silver Vauxhall Astra understood to have been involved.

The car is believed to have suffered damage including a smashed windscreen, front end damage and is missing a wing mirror. If any garage owners have received a silver Astra with such damage for repair Police want to hear from them.

Officers understand there were a number of other vehicles and pedestrians around at the time and we’re appealing for those people to come forward.
