An armed burglar who threatened a woman with knives in her own home has been jailed for almost 10 years – after we caught him trying to flee the scene.

Officers arrived within minutes of receiving the victim’s distressed call and saw Justin Jones on the driveway, in her car, having just stolen the keys and cash.

The 25-year-old jumped from the running Toyota Yaris and tried to flee from our cops in Woodway Lane, Coventry, at around 11.40pm on New Year’s Eve.

However, he was tasered and arrested with one knife found near to him and another in the car he was trying to steal.

Jones, of Ansty Road, Walsgrave, pleaded guilty to aggravated burglary and was sentenced to nine years and six months at Warwick Crown Court on Thursday (11 June).

DC Sara Coakley, from force CID at Coventry, said: “This was a terrifying experience for the woman who was left fearing for her life in her own home.”Jones had smashed a window to force his way into the address and sensing there was an intruder she contacted us.

“While doing this she was confronted and threatened by Jones, armed with a knife in both hands, who grabbed her car keys and cash.”However, our officers were on the scene within a matter of minutes and ensured there was escape. Jones will now spend a significant period behind bars.”
