Police have recovered two machetes and arrested four men after stopping a car believed to be linked to disorder in Birmingham city centre last night.

Police received reports of up to seven men fighting, with a knife seen, in Swallow Street at just before midnight.

The men dispersed but quick-time enquiries identified a Volkswagen Golf leaving the area with some of those suspected of being involved.

Officers promptly traced the car to Hagley Road and it was stopped just after 12.30am with the two knives found inside.

The men, aged between 22 and 29, were arrested on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon and remain in custody for questioning.
