Police have charged a teenager over a shocking road collision in which a dog walker was knocked down and her pet killed.

The woman was run over in Doe Bank Lane, Great Barr, on 22 July. She survived but her beloved pet dog Millie sadly died at the side of the road.

Police released video footage of the collision and had an overwhelming response to our appeal with the footage shared thousands of times and watched by millions of people.

Our investigators arrested a 17-year-old boy on 7 August in connection with the incident.

He was released under investigation to allow them to carry out further enquiries – and yesterday the suspect, now aged 18, was charged with several offences.

Kallum Aish has been charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving, failing to stop at the scene of an accident, driving with no insurance or licence, criminal damage and cannabis possession.

Aish, from Finchley Road in Kingstanding, is set to appear at Birmingham Magistrates Court on 28 January for his first appearance.
