A teenager who died in Hamstead has today been named Jack Barry.

The 19-year-old was discovered seriously hurt in West Road just after 9.45 pm last Sunday (7 March) and was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

An 18-year-old man was detained on suspicion of murder but taken to hospital with an injury. He remains in hospital for treatment and will be questioned when medically fit.

In a short statement, Jack’s grieving family said: “Jack was a much-loved son and grandson.”

A post mortem revealed he died as a result of a stab wound.

Detective Inspector Hannah Whitehouse, from our homicide team, said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Jack at this deeply distressing time.

“We’re grateful for the support we’ve received so far as we seek to establish the full circumstances of what happened on Sunday evening.

“But we still believe there are people out there who have information which can assist our investigation and I’d urge them to contact us.”
